Color. It’s a personal choice.

Something a little different today. I thought I’d share something personal. No, not those. Only the Mister gets to see my feet.

I want to share with you my own personal design aesthetic.

I’m into white. The whiter the better. It’s crisp. It has attitude. It demands attention. That’s why the white shirt is so…white. It’s the alpha dog of color.

Unlike other colors, white can also take a backseat. It knows it’s good…it doesn’t have to be front and center. It can step back and let another color stand in the spotlight.

Not that I have anything against black. Shit, no! I love black! Most of my clothing features various shades of black — black mixed with black, black mixed with white, black mixed with tan — but not red. Hate red and black together. Would it be too crude of me to say that combination screams slut wannabe?

It would? Excellent!

As far as I’m concerned, black will always be the “new” black. It never goes out of style and it makes you look slim(er) especially if you stand in front of a white wall.

So while I love both black and white, white is my go-to color in home decor. One of my many imaginary homes looks something like this:

Hello! I imagine I live here.

If you want more white (and who doesn’t) click here to view a slide show I discovered this morning. Click here to look at some of my favorite home designs. And, finally, click here if you don’t like white in any shade.

So there. I’ve shared something personal with you. I swear it will never happen again. Unless you pay me.

  1. Are you drunk — sharing like that? Your grammar seems okay…

I like clean and minimalist designs too. Our faux-Spanish, faux-Mission style house with its already-here-when-we-moved-in terra cotta tiles, doesn’t lead to white much, but I’ve tried to keep things very clean in the changes we’ve made.

    • Drunk? Maybe just a little bit…I blame you. All those lovely drinky photos just make me thirsty, damn it. :-)

I like Mission-style homes, too. Especially if they have lots of warm wood to reflect all the white I’d have surrounding it.

    • I don’t wear a lot of white, either. I usually mix it with black…tees, etc. I only really started to wear white after discovering Oxy-Clean. It’s an amazing product. When it got red wine out of our parchment colored micro-fiber sofa, I went out and bought a 12-pack and it’s paid for itself already. :-)

    • Benjamin Moore has a white called “Cloud White” that a friend used in her place. Walls, trim, everything and it looks awesome. I’m going to check it out for our new bathroom…if and when we ever start THAT job. :-)

  3. Don’t ever visit my neck of the woods. The colors for UGA are red and black. That’s all you see around here.
I like decorating with red, but against a pale sage-like green wall and with pops of other colors. I like bright colors: cobalt blue, yellow, green. White makes me nervous. I love red wine too much to own anything white. That house is awesome, though!

    • Liking bright colors makes sense for you. All that Zombie gore, guts and blood makes for quite the decorating challenge so I applaud your ability to just go with it!

i have a couple of turquoise tee shirts that I like and an acid green jacket that looks amazing with jeans but I stay away from jewel tones. Ever since someone said I can’ t “wear” black, I’ve been wearing black and have come to realize they were just jealous. Bitches!!!
